Summer 2017

The Spotlight is pleased to present a summertime full of fun for your children. The Spotlight will offer two, three-week summer dance and gymnastics sessions beginning June 12th. A combination of morning and evening classes will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Spotlight is excited about a variety of summer dance intensives and gymnastics camp again this summer.  

 Two, three-week summer sessions run June 12-30 & July 5-21.

(July 4th classes will be held on July 6th)

30 minute class = $35 for 3 weeks
45 minute class = $45 for 3 weeks
60 minute class = $50 for 3 weeks
Save $5 by registering for all 6 weeks!
4 Day Camps = $100
2 Hr Camp = $25

“Flip, Twist & Stick It” -- Gymnastics Camp

Dates: June 5 - June 8 (9 a.m. - 12 noon)
This camp is for all those kids who love to tumble. This will be four days of gymnastics fun, including
conditioning, tumbling, bars, beam and mini-trampoline. Students must be 6 years old and older. This camp is geared towards the intermediate to advanced gymnast. (Advanced 5 year olds may be eligible by teacher’s recommendation only.)

Spotlight Superstar Camp

Is your child interested in it all, or not sure what style to choose for next school year? Then this is the perfect opportunity for them! These two-hour sessions include a half-hour each of ballet, tap, jazz and gymnastics. Two different camps will be offered this summer (see dates below). This is a great way to check out the different styles offered at the Spotlight and see which style fits your child’s interest and personality best. These camps are open to any student who will be entering first-grade and up.

(minimum of 5 students per camp) $25 for one, two-hour camp


June 13 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. July 11 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.

2017 Summer Class Offerings

Toddler Creative Movement (with parent)

To register for this class, children should be fairly steady when walking. During this class, we will sing, dance, tumble, and play using many engaging activities. Toddlers will be introduced to basic movement elements: big/small, fast/slow, high/low, time, space, and energy. Children will enjoy working with hula hoops, balls, bean bags, rhythm sticks and working on a balance beam. 30 minutes

Explorer Classes

These classes expand on the basic elements of movement and music. Skipping and jumping will enhance coordination, while gymnastics help children develop strength and balance. Dramatic play games help childrens emotional and social development. Students also have opportunities to be creative and learn cooperation skills. These classes introduce students to basic technique in ballet, tap, and jazz.

Explorer 3s – for 3 year olds (ballet shoes only) 30 minutes Explorer 4s – for 4 year olds (ballet and tap shoes) 45 minutes

Shooting Stars

Classes at this level allow students to explore dance technique, gymnastics, and dramatic curriculum. We will explore levels, shapes, and rhythms. Students will learn short routines in tap, ballet, and jazz to hopefully find out what they enjoy the most and what classes they want to continue taking. 45 minutes

Ballet

Ballet is a poised and graceful dance form that requires discipline and patience. Classes are split up into barre, center work, stretch, strengthening and ballet combinations. Instructors will place students according to years studying dance and ability. 60 minutes
Pointe - Teachers recommendation only

Tap

A great way to brush up, practice and refine tap skills. Classes will include warm up, basic review, speed work, rhythmic exercises and combinations to prepare dancers for more difficult tap repertoire and eventually improvisation in future classes.

Beginning/Intermediate 30 minutes Junior/Senior 45 Minutes

Contemporary (one year of ballet is a prerequisite)
This style of dance uses technique from ballet, jazz and modern, but puts more focus on using ones body to express emotions. Sometimes described as “movement for the sake of movement”, this class explores connection to music as well as to other dancers, and feeling free while creating dance. 45 minutes

Hip Hop (one year of jazz is a prerequisite or by teachers recommendation)
Hip Hop is a “funky” type of dance. It is similar to what is seen in music videos or at concerts. Hip Hop is focused on rhythm and coordination. It concentrates on the beat in the music and just letting your body move. It
s all about having fun and letting loose. 30 & 45 minutes

Jazz

Jazz is a fun and upbeat style of dance for those with lots of energy. Our classes include warm-up, across the floor work and center combinations. Students can expect fun, and high-energy music. 30 & 45 minutes

Gymnastics

For ages 5 and up. Class will be taught to individually work with each student at their level. Tumbling, mini- trampoline, bar and beam will be focused on in this class. The serious gymnast to the recreational one will benefit from this class. 45 minutes & 60 minutes

Tumble Time (3 -5 year olds)

Designed for those active kids who love to be on the move. For children 3, 4, and 5 and 6 years old. Instruction will include tumbling, mini-trampoline, wedge mat, bar and beam. From basic rolls to cartwheels will be taught. 45 minutes
