Spotlight Foote Notes April 2017

LOTS OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION THIS MONTH, PLEASE READ!!!

Do You Know Your Child’s Dress Rehearsal & Recital Times?

This year the Spotlight will have three different shows on Friday and Saturday, May 26 and 27. Each class and soloist will perform only once. Show times and rehearsal times have been marked in the costume book and notes will be sent home with costumes the first week of April. You can check the costume book at the front desk to confirm your rehearsal time. Dress rehearsal at the Memorial Theater (112 E. High St., Mt. Vernon) is MANDATORY!

2017 Spotlight Costume Update

Costume balances must be paid in order for your child to take their costume home. If you are unsure of your balance please check at the front desk, notes were sent home in March. Please, please, please take very good care of your costume when you take it home. We cannot replace them at this point. The kids will be tempted to play in them, but please only let them try it on to show other relatives and then hang it back up right away. You will receive a costume care page with your costume, please hang your costume up and make sure all of the pieces are together. We want all the kids to look wonderful on stage and if you don’t care for your costume at home it will show on stage.

Recital Tights Must Be Purchased From The Spotlight

It is important that all tights be purchased through the Spotlight so that they all match on stage. They are very reasonably priced for this purpose. You can check the costume book at the front desk to see what color tights your child will need.

Picture Time!

We are pleased to announce that Stacey Wiles of Wiles Photography will again be taking dance/gymnastics portraits this spring. If you are not familiar with Wiles Photography just take a look around the lobby at the beautiful pictures. You may also visit their website at www.WilesPhoto.com. Picture days will be Friday, April 28th and Saturday, April 29th. Sign
up sheets are available at the front desk. Pictures are not mandatory for your student, no make up days are offered for pictures.

Summer Dance & Gymnastics

Once again, The Spotlight has a fun summer dance and gymnastics program planned. Classes will start in June. Classes, as well as dance and gymnastics camps will be offered again this summer. (Fliers and registration forms at the front desk soon.)

‘Starstruck’ Recital T-Shirts, DVDs & Tags Available

The Spotlight will be offering recital t-shirts, DVD’s and commemorative tags. Orders for these items can be placed at the front desk. Payment must be made when order is placed. T-shirt orders must be placed by May 5th, all other orders must be in before the last day of classes on Friday, May 19th.

• T-shirts (child S, M, L, and adult S, M, L) $12 • DVD (2 disc set includes all 3 shows) $15
• Commemorative Tag $5

• Recital Package (includes t-shirt, DVD and tag) $30

Attendance and Commitment Reminder

As stated in the Spotlight Handbook that each family received at the beginning of the season. “A successful performance requires both attendance and commitment to classes. Students who miss class put the entire class at a disadvantage, due to the fact that absent students must be taught the missed material while the rest of the class repeats what they covered the week before. Your commitment ensures that students receive the most out of our programs and that they spend their time learning, not repeating. During the months of March, April and May a 75% attendance policy will be enforced. The Spotlight reserves the right to dismiss any student who does not meet these requirements during these months.”

Lock-In Fun

Thank you to all the parents who allowed their children to experience the 2017 Spotlight Lock-in, it was a blast! It was great to get to know some of them better and have some good laughs together. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful and polite group of young ladies with us. Thanks again for all the fun!

Memorial Day Parade

The Spotlight is again planning on participating in the 2017 Memorial Day Parade. Last year we had a float and students were asked to wear their recital costumes and be in the parade. A sign-up sheet and more details will be available the beginning of May.

Parking Reminders

Please remember that if the front lot is full you are welcome to use the parking lot behind the building as well as the church parking lot. The side of the building is an in and out driveway, please do not park along the building. Also, please be mindful of the handicap ramp in front of the building. Many of you have probably seen orange cones placed out front. These cones are to keep vehicles from pulling up and parking on and driving over the ramp.

2017 Spotlight Costume Update

If you are interested in seeing your child’s costume for the spring recital stop by the front desk and ask to view the 2017 costume notebook. Costumes are starting to arrive, Miss Katie and Miss Stephanie will be sorting and invoicing costumes and plan to send home costume balance slips by the end of February. Costumes will not be sent home until April. Once you receive your child’s costume balance slip please plan to pay your balance by March 31 so that your child will be able to take their costume home in April.

Please Report Your Child’s Absence

Please respect your child’s teacher and if they will be missing class for any reason please call the studio at 393-2623, or email us at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let us know your child will not be attending. Teachers are working very hard on choreography for the spring recital and when your child is not in class it affects everyone. We understand things come up and sometimes students aren’t feeling well, but attendance is VERY important this time of year so please see that your child is in class as much as possible so that they can continue to learn and won’t let their classmates down in the spring recital.

The Spotlight Closing Due to Inclement Weather

Snowflakes will be falling this winter, we would like to remind everyone of The Spotlight’s cancellation policy. If the studio must close due to inclement weather there will be a recording on the voicemail as well as posted on the website at www.thespotlightcenter.com. Just because schools are closed does not mean The Spotlight will be closed, so please check on days that the weather is questionable. The Spotlight staff will attempt to post any closing by 1 p.m.

Reminder: Class Cancellation Policy
There may be times that we must cancel classes due to weather, our policy provides one ‘cushion day” for each day of the week. This means that each day of the week could have one cancelled day of classes without requiring a makeup lesson. If a certain day’s classes are cancelled more than once, a makeup class will be scheduled.

The Spotlight’s Annual Lock-In Date Has Been Set
